In honor of my birthday tomorrow, I wanted to restore the original erp's blog picture.
A more perfect image I can't imagine and wish I could take credit for painting/photographing it. Alas, all I can take credit for is, finally after many false starts, figuring out how to upload it. That was almost five years ago when my laptop was new and shiny. Little did I know just how much fun I would have with it and how indispensable it and the internet would become.
To all my cyberfriends, those who share my world view (kinda) and those who have agreed to disagree on some issues, thank you for spending time here and inviting me to drop in at your digs and a special thanks to all you technical geniuses for sharing so generously of your expertise.
The blogosphere has, in a way, made up for what I've missed most about retirement, the interaction with college students both those who worked for me and others with whom I crossed paths. Most of them were girls, well women in the current vernacular, and we had many deep conversations about how they saw their role in society. Some of them were kind enough to credit those conversations with an increase in their self-confidence and I'm very proud that one of the smartest and most insecure of them actually applied to a prestigious law school, got accepted and has gone on to some impressive achievements.
Anyway, it's another gorgeous day in sunny Florida and I wish you were all here to enjoy it.

Congratulations! I hope you have a very happy day.
Thank you.
Happy Birthday!
I like this flower much more than the other one.
Were you a teacher?
No, my career was rather checkered. I was in administration just as computers came in I had a chance to show how they could be used. Amazing as it sounds, very few people could see how they would revolutionize everything.
Happy Birthday, erp. There is something very special about us virgos, no?
Yes.
Oh c'mon, erp, louder. Don't you think astrology is a bunch of nonsense, except for that part that asserts the superiority of virgos? Wouldn't the world be a better place if we ran it? Aren't all the other signs incorrigibly wimpy?
Once again, now: One , two, three, four... Who are we for?...Virgos, Virgos...yeaahhh!
Peter, if you were angling for congratulations for your birthday which, by implication is around now, you'll have to speak louder! Happy birthday to you too! (As far as astrological nonsense goes, I know for a certainty that Sagittarius is the superior sign.)
Well ya know, Virgos are often accused of being know-it-alls, but I don't think that true. I think only some of us know it all and the others only pretend they do. Sagittarians OTOH don't know it all, they know how to ignore it all and enjoy life. They are spontaneous, charming and athletic, and parenthetically drive Virgos crazy. I speak as an expert on the subject being married to one for 51 years.
So that's why we have to agree to differ, erp? Obviously, surviving 51 years with an incompatible star sign shows that the star-driven destiny can be overcome! I hope you managed to agree on a suitable way to celebrate your birthday.
Actually, my roomie and I agree on everything. It's the devil in the details that are problematic. He's Oscar and I'm Felix.
