While I agree with AJ Strata that this is a very minor issue, he does get the technology very wrong in his argument. He goes on about anti-aliasing, not realizing that laser printers cannot do that. It's just a display artifact on a monitor to make the text easier to read. The difference is that a monitor has brightness levels, but a laser printer puts ink in a spot, or it doesn't. No greys allowed.

I am not sure. The claim that Obama wouldn't have the original, but a state generated copy, is very plausible. I don't know about Hawaii in specific, but other states have adopted that style, in no small part because
1) A birth certificate is just a certification from the state about the details of your birth. The original just isn't that important.
2) Restricting access to the original improves record security and durability.
The bottom line is, it doesn't really matter if this is a genuine copy or not. That's not what determines if Obama a natural born citizen.
What I do wonder about is why this appears to be so hard to clear up. It's not about some particular copy of some document, it's about whether the state of Hawaii certifies Obama's birth. Why that can't be stated or verified explicitly puzzles me. It could be that Obama's campaign is just incompetent at things like this (c.f. Obama's mortgage issue, which was cleared up faster and more thoroughly by Instapundit than Obama's campaign). On the other hand, I have seen it suggested that Obama's campaign is deliberately not clearing this up, even though there's nothing there, because it creates a lot of smoke with no fire, thereby discrediting through guilt by association, other claims with more substance.
