Discrimination against liberals in the Justice Department ... what took them so long?Talk about crocodile tears. Below are four takes on the subject of a government report alleging the Bush administration discriminated against liberal law school graduates, especially in the Ivies!
What? You didn't know there were any other kind? Well, neither did I and I, for one, am delighted to find that there are conservative law school grads and in the spirit of affirmative action, it's only right (pun intended) that they should get all the jobs until there is equality in our Justice Department and all the other governmental departments. After all.

(4) The Bush DOJ officials presumably saw themselves as trying to balance out Main Justice. When I was at Main Justice in the Clinton years, it was heavily Democratic among career lawyers: even in the Criminal Division, which you might think leans more conservative than other sections, most lawyers were Democrats. Still, none of that excuses the kind of political hiring that apparently went on. The goal should have been to even the playing field, if it needed evening, not to engage in affirmative action for conservatives.

“When it comes to the hiring of nonpartisan career attorneys,” Mr. Conyers said, “our system of justice should not be corrupted by partisan politics. It appears the politicization at Justice was so pervasive that even interns had to pass a partisan litmus test.”
The inspector general is still investigating other issues related to alleged politicization of the Justice Department, including the central question of why nine United States attorneys were fired in late 2006. Those findings have not been made public.

The report Tuesday is the first of perhaps several to be issued as the broad-ranging investigation into the role partisan politics has played in the Justice Department during the Bush administration.
Goodling is expected to be a central figure in later inspector general reports examining efforts to increase the influence of conservatives in the department.

Under the changes instituted under Ashcroft and continued under his successor, Alberto Gonzales, the political appointees were encouraged to become more involved in the hiring process, Fine said.
Tuesday's report is the first to come out of a series of inspector general investigations that arose out of the firings of nine U.S. attorneys in 2006. Fine's investigators also are looking into whether the firings were prompted by partisan political reasons, whether Gonzales and his aides misled Congress about the firings and whether civil-rights and voting-rights cases were politicized
It's become pretty clear that if the Dems sweep in November, there will be a long line of investigation of Bush administration policies with the intent putting those they don't like on trial for doing what was business as usual during Democrat administrations. One of the first things Clinton was fire all the U.S. attorneys. Since they all serve "at the pleasure of the president," he had full authority to do so and if I recall the media didn't find it objectionable at all. Much more of the same.
