George Carlin RIP

The drug addled hippies of his generation who thought any curb on their behavior unacceptable, made a hero out of Carlin for saying on the public airwaves the seven words deemed objectionable by the FCC. Hilarious? Not very. Free Speech Advocate? Not really. Sayer of Truths? Hardly.

Over the years Carlin has achieved icon status tilting at the same old windmills which had long since stopped turning. What a legacy.

Carlin went on to develop a serious cocaine addiction, and as recently as 2004 he entered rehab to break what he called a dependency on vicodan and wine.

Despite those struggles, Carlin, who suffered the first of several heart attacks when he was only 41, said the coronary artery disease that finally killed him was the result not of drugs but of genetics.

"My father gave me this disease," he told the AP in 2007.

Isn't it typical of the Me Generation that he blames his father for his heart problems and while he gives him credit for his gift of gab, he doesn't give him credit for the genes that kept him alive for three score and ten years even though he admitted to using drugs starting at the age thirteen.

Another darling of the media who has defined deviancy down to such an extent that the word has lost all meaning.
