Maureen, I think it's almost a reflex action to think of anything American as vulgar or gross or crass. Even if it's not consciously, it's a sort of shorthand. "American, doncha know?" Everyone nods knowingly.
Your anecdote of someone quoting another someone saying outrageous things about killing people all over the world was ludicrous. If it really happened, which I doubt, the interviewee was having a bit of fun saying shocking things to a credulous buffoon. Bosnia being on American soil? ??? Anyway, neither my country nor my countrymen need defending.
Your country gave us almost everything we hold dear. We traveled a bit throughout England and Scotland and loved every minute of it. Even though my own ancestry is Slavic, and my husband's Italian, we felt more drawn to the birthplace of our country than the birthplace of our parents and it pains me that you Brits don't value your own culture, but seem to be giving it away in handfuls.
Provos, sorry here they're referred to as the IRA, are terrorists as are their leadership and spokespersons and IMO Islamic councils et al. are no different. If and when a Moslem group speaks out and unequivocally condemns their co-religionists, they'll get my respect, but until then they're just as guilty as those setting the bombs.
As for checking in at your blog. I don't think so. In fact, I feel that the friendly group you had was disturbed by my presence. Please check at erp's new blog, if you'd like to visit, or send me an email now and then.
