SEMANTICS A GO GO

The reason so many right-of-center bloggers, blog readers and just ordinary walking-around citizens refer to themselves as upper or lower case libertarians rather than upper or lower case conservatives or even worse, Republicans, is because the word, liberal, which is what most of us really are, has been co-opted by the most un-liberal, dogmatic, know-nothings in all of history, namely current day socialists, fascists, communists, statists, maoists, bolsheviks, marxists. stalinists ... I apologize if I've left anyone out.

Like the masters of semantics they are, the left claim for themselves all the pluses of the word, liberal, knowing it's unlikely they'll be called out for being hypocrites. Here's the dictionary.com definition of liberal: broad minded; non-interventionist; tolerant; laisez-faire; unprejudiced; beneficent; charitable.

They've also managed denigrate the perfectly useful word, conservative, as the label for everything not defined as liberal. Here's the dictionary.com definition of conservative: conventional; conformist; unadventurous; old fashioned; traditionalist; careful; cautious, reactionary.

Those who disagree with them are labeled gun-totting church goers, skin heads, white supremacists, evangelical Christians who handle snakes and speak in tongues, incestuous denizens of the hollers of West Virginia, people who live in fly-over country and people who don't even have second-tier college degrees.

I identify myself as conservative only to distinguish myself from the commonly held notion of what most people think are liberal views and I mostly vote Republican as the lesser of the two evils.

BTW -- just a quick reminder, contrary to CW, Republicans aren't the party of fat cats or the good old boys who lynched the darkies and robbed the poor. The truth is that Democrats kept black slaves and then repressed them after the Civil War and practically every union worker and immigrant from earliest times were in the left's column.

As immigrants prospered, there was a moving away from traditional left wing politics, but most Jews have inexplicably clung to the left even against their own best interests.

As Obama is preparing to pull the rug out from under Israel, will American Jews finally see the light?

I frankly doubt it.
