DHS ignored civil-liberties lawyers’ warnings on report; Update: Senators demand data, explanation.
Civil liberties officials at the Homeland Security Department flagged language in a controversial report on right-wing extremists, but the agency issued the report anyway. …Apparently some bloggers on the right, not wishing to be accused of reverse BDS, have been giving the One more benefit of the doubt than he deserves IMO. This report doesn't only target the military, but any of us who refuse to drink the Kool-Aid.
Homeland Security spokeswoman Amy Kudwa said the report was issued before officials resolved problems raised by the agency’s civil rights division about analysts’ definition of right-wing extremism.
In a footnote in the report, right-wing extremism was defined as hate-motivated groups and movements, such as hatred of certain religions, racial or ethnic groups. It went on to say, “It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.”

The depth and breadth of anger against this administration is noticeably greater (to me) than that against any other administration in my lifetime. Left, Right, Middle, it doesn't matter, the Obama Administration has really managed to tick a lot of people off.
Unfortunately, that means that the likelihood of extremism probably is higher than usual. Therefore, the Administration probably has little choice but to be more alert to that sort of thing.
I do agree that the report should not have been released as is. Indeed, that's only helping to tick yet more people off - almost a self-fulfilling prophecy.
IMO this administration would like to goad hot heads into actions they might not take under less in-your-face situations which could then lead to draconian measures for the "public safety."
I'm really angry and terrified in a way I've never been before.
BTW - We don't own an iPod or any other modern musical contraption, so I'm listening to your music on my laptop's primitive "sound system." The lyrics aren't at all clear, but later I'll try my husband's laptop which is a little higher on the laptop food chain so perhaps I'll have better luck there.
The music is enjoyable and evocative. I like "Manic" especially.
You're very talented in many ways, not the least of which is tact.

I think this administration is far too incompetent to be given credit for formulating such a complex strategy of simultaneously feigning incompetence while "goading" anybody to do anything. It just looks like erratic incompetence to me. The primary reason it looks like that to me is that Obama seems to be angering Left, Right, Middle, Black, White, Purple (whatever). It seems to me that if he really wanted to spark violence, a much better strategy would be to have the entire rest of the country behind him.
That doesn't mean they won't get the same result via incompetence or grand design, of course.
This is where I think it's important to avoid ODS. Those with BDS would simultaneously accuse Bush of being the stupidest person on the face of the planet, yet somehow he was also the most diabolically evil genius ever.
You can pick one or the other, but if you pick both, I think you cross the line into delusion.
As you can tell from recent posts (here for example) that I'm also worried.
Ah, but despite the belief of many of Obama's worshippers and opponents, the Obama Administration is hardly a unity driven by the Mind of Obama. I think he's actually a far better fit for the "amiable dunce puppet run by evil shadows" type than former President Bush.
What I think is that there were some very clever, very intelligent, very conspiratorial plotters who set much of this in motion but the current generation is running basically on inertia and entropy with little understanding of the social technology they use (e.g., Alinskyite tactics). Most, such as Pelosi, Dodd, Frank, are basically Pary Member O'Briens with Congressional hearings as their Room 101. They do it not so much as part of a generations long plot, but because they enjoy destroying things to validate their power.
Absolutely right SH. I use the One sarcastically.
In fact, we had this conversation last night. There were any number of candidates for front man. Clinton, for instance, but he let them down by his juvenile antics. Who's behind it. Probably Emanuel is one of them and Soros et al.
The Democratic politicians are dunces who've been in power far too long. Read that Dodd got 1.3 mil last month, $5,000 of it from Connecticut residents!
Obama is pliable and as long as he has spiffy (his word) toys like Air Force One and The Beast and can hear the people cheering, he'll play along. Ma belle, I'm not so sure about.
Did you see that Obama is being compared favorably to Gorbachev for reaching out to our [hemispheric] enemies, aka murderous drug lords, in the interest of world peace.
As they say in the 'hood, oy vey.
So y'all think it's a giant conspiracy? I personally don't see much unity in the "evil shadows" either.
I'd be very glad to be proved wrong.
It'll of course never be proved right or wrong since we can't know the minds of the actors or their closed door meetings. I see nothing that doesn't generally fit in with the centralization of power that is inherent in political systems.
Au contraire. We'll find out soon enough.
How?
By following events as they unfold.
Brett;
Well, no, as I specifically mentioned that the current crop is not part of a long conspiracy. I think most of the original intellectuals of the movement were, but sustaining such things across generations is a nigh insurmountable task at which the MAL has largely failed. I am sure there are some actual conspiracists but I don't think they're significant. As noted, I think the current generation of leaders are using the conspiracy the same way barbarians use the fruits of civilization.
