Update: Spitzer resigns. Maybe times are achanging. Let the spin begin.
FTA The spin efforts to make the Spitzer scandal nothing more than a Bush Justice Department sting operation against a political opponent has commencedL'Affaire Spitzer and the effort to shift the blame from the perp to Bushitler has begun. This will become a primer on how to whitewash the hand caught in the cookie jar.
From the WSJ:
Yet from the start, the press corps acted as an adjunct of Spitzer power, rather than a skeptic of it. Many journalists get into this business because they want to see wrongs righted. Mr. Spitzerportrayed himself as the moral avenger. He was the slayer of the big guy, the fat cat, the Wall Street titan -- all allegedly on behalf of the little guy. The press ate it up, and came back for more.
If Spitzer does resign as the new agencies are predicting, the new governor will be "a naïve and uniquely unqualified man would never have been elected to the state's highest post ... .
If this does happen, I hope it will give pause to McCain and the Democratic nominee to pick a truly qualified vice-presidential candidate and not one who just "balances out" the ticket.
